Maximize Your Adsense earningsTo maximize your earnings, it's not a matter of just slapping some adsense on your page andhoping for the best - so lets look at it in a little more detail.... and see if there really are any "Adsense Secrets"! Click Thru Rate The click thru rate (CTR) varies wildly between sites. Some are as low as 1% or less, while others report as high as 50%. Many websites operate on 2-3%, but what is a good average? From looking at various polls on the 'net, I'm guessing that perhaps 1/2 to 2/3 of webmasters have a CTR of 5% or less. I would say that roughly 10-15% should be quite achievable in many cases - which means a lot of websites have the ability to perhaps triple their adsense income.. This will vary depending on your visitor profile - for example, teenagers are more likely to click on anything that gets their attention, while webmasters/technical experts are LESS likely to click. Relevant Ads The first step to increasing earnings, is making sure that Google can place the most relevant advertisments possible on your page. If your page title, headings, and content are clearly defined, then Google has a much easier time deciding what ads to display. The more targeted the ads to your visitors interest, then then the more likely they are to click. This is good SEO policy anyway, but don't overlook it's importance. Ad Placement Take a look at the Google heatmap. (you can read more about it here. https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=17954 The dark orange areas show the hotspots for ad placement. Try and stick to this map where possible, for maximum effect. The areas in white are low CTR spots....you will get less clicks with ads placed here, although this is only a guide. If the layout of your page is such that the visitors eye is drawn to these areas, then it may be worthwhile placing some ads here. Don't feel that you need to load every hotspot on every page with adverts! Low Paying Advertisers Getting rid of low paying advertisers from your site will pay big dividends. These typically are the "made for adsense" sites. I'm sure you've seen their ads - We Have Found The Top Ten Sites For..... etc. The way they work is that for an extremely low click price (maybe only a few cents)they entice your visitors from your site to their MFA site, where they can offer them higher priced adverts. I look on them as a parasite...they live off your hard work, but pay you virtually nothing for it. So get rid of them! Google allows you to filter out and block specific URLs.
